Friends (Quakers) meetinghouse, Damariscotta, Maine. ... Friends often use "Light" for the ineffable Presence called by many different words, by different sects and persons within the sects. Buddhists often refer to the Primordial Light or the Great Eastern Sun. Friends, ranging from secular liberal to evangelical Christian, have no one way of speaking of this Presence, honoring we each have different ways to relate with this Mystery.

After group meditation one evening, Gerald wished to ask a question. After the sage welcomed him to do so, Gerald said, "I'm struggling with contentment. What does it mean to live with contentment? How do I do that?"
The sage mused a time with eyes closed, as he often did before replying to a question. Then, he spoke, "Hanshan said...

that live peacefully on one branch.'"
